Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the volume of data transferred to and from your web site. A web page 50Kb in size viewed by 1000 people equates to 5mb.

Cascading Style Sheets
A standard method for formatting of Web pages, by defining fonts, colours of titles, paragraph spacing at a global level.
Cell Padding
Space between the edges of a table cell and the cell content. Cell Spacing is the distance between cells.
DHTML
Dynamic HTML. An extension of HTML that allows, among other things, the inclusion of animation and dynamic content in Web pages.
Dreamweaver
WYSIWYG authoring software from Macromedia enabling easy creation of sites containing graphics and multimedia elements.
Fireworks
Graphics software from Macromedia used for optimising images, editing animated GIF's, creating buttons, animations or rollovers and menus.
Forum
A site for visitors to post and read messages. Basically a bulletin board.
HTML
HyperText Markup Language. Web page description language. A W3C standard, compatible with all systems.
Image Map
Enables the definition of hypertext links based on sections of an image.
Meta Tags
HTML tags that are not visible on a formatted page, but are used by search engines for indexing purposes.
PhotoShop
A professional image-editing and graphics creation software from Adobe.
Pixel
Picture element. The smallest unit (point) of an image displayed on screen. The quality of an image depends on the number of pixels per inch that make up the image.
Proxy
Server placed between a user's machine and the Internet. It can act as a firewall to provide protection and as a cache area to speed up Web page display.
Resolution
The number of pixels displayed by a monitor, printer or scanner. Resolution is measured in dots per inch (DPI); the more dots per inch, the higher the resolution.
Rollover
The effect produced by swapping a graphic with another when the cursor is moved over it.
Spider
To spider means that a Search Engine's "robot" collects data from a Web Site and places this data in the Search Engine's database.
WYSIWYG
What You See Is What You Get (you get what you see on screen). A graphical user interface embedded in software.
Web Ring
A group of sites sharing a common theme.
XML
eXtensible Markup Language. Enables the customising of tags which describe the layout and the nature of data elements. Useful for largely dynamic content sites.
