Web Hosting FAQ
Why should I pay money for web space when there are multiple free ones I can use?
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) often offer subscribers free space for a small web site that is hosted by one of their computers. While these services are free, they are also very basic, usually no databases or scripting, and most don't allow you to host your own domain. In the end, you wind up with a web site that has very little web space to upload files to, and a web address that is longer than some english sentences. Our services eliminate all of that and give you full control over your site and how it looks and feels.
How long does it take for you to activate my account?
Accounts are usually activated within 24 hours after you submit a signup form or email.
How fast and reliable are the servers my website is being placed onto?
The servers are connected to multiple fast-access internet connections only hops away from the internet backbone. We use a clustered hosting environment, one of the most secure and stable systems available. The servers are constantly updated with security patches and new capacity is being added daily. The end result is your web site is safely and securely stored on a reliable system and is accessible 24 hours a day.
Do you back up your servers?
The servers are backed up every 24hrs. If the servers have problems your site will be restored to the previous day. We typically do not keep a separate daily copy of your website to go back to if you do something silly to it and break it somehow.
Will others be able to access my files?
While your files will remain safe and secure, they are viewable by anyone in the world when you publish them on the web. Whatever you put on the web is available immediately to everybody in the world. Think twice before you publish any sensitive material to your web site. There are, however, ways to password-protect areas of your web site.
What exactly is web hosting?
Web hosting is the business of housing, serving, and maintaining files for one or more web sites. More important than the computer space that is provided for Web site files is the fast connection to the Internet. Typically, an individual business hosting its own site would require an expensive highspeed connection if the website is very busy. Using a hosting service lets many companies share the cost of a fast Internet connections for serving files.
What is "Virtual or Cloud Web Hosting"?
Virtual hosting is the provision of web server hosting service so that a company (or individual) doesn't have to purchase and maintain its own web server and connections to the internet. Typically, virtual hosting provides a customer who wants a web site with: domain name registration assistance, multiple domain names that map to the registered domain name, file storage and directory setup for the web site files (HTML and graphic image files), and e-mail addresses.
